Watch your water
Most monsoon illnesses travel through water. Drink boiled or filtered water, avoid roadside cut fruit and salads, and wash vegetables thoroughly — especially leafy greens.
Hands first
Frequent hand-washing with soap remains the single best defence against seasonal viral infections. Keep a sanitizer handy for travel.
Keep mosquitoes out
Empty stagnant water from coolers, pots and terraces weekly. Use repellents and nets — dengue and malaria peak in the weeks after heavy rains.
Don't ignore a fever
A fever that lasts more than 48 hours, or comes with severe body ache, rash or vomiting, deserves a proper check-up and tests — self-medicating with leftover antibiotics does more harm than good.
